XML Support
The new XML support speeds up the process of using content from other sources during authoring. Now, you can take existing content ( e.g. found in databases, content created with other tools) and convert it the ToolBook XML format. After using the new ToolBook XML Open feature, your content are now converted to the ToolBook format where they are fully editable with the ToolBook applications.
Apple iPhone Support
ToolBook now allows you to create online learning, reference material, tutorials and other content for the iPhone. That way, mobile workers are always at the top performance with the information they need just one tap away.

Apple Mac
Now users can access ToolBook Web content using the Safari Web browser on an Apple Mac. With support for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla,
Firefox and
now Safari – never before has a content authoring product allow so many options for users needing to access learning content.

Voice Recording Feature for Page Narration
This makes it easy to record a voiceover that plays when the learner enters the page. Just go to Insert -> Voice Recording to record from your microphone.

Completion Certificates
ToolBook has always made it possible to create completion certificates, but with this release, it just got easier.
- A new catalog category called Certificates has been created which contains a complete certificate page as well as a set of objects which can be used to build a completely customized certificate.
- Also available in the Certificate category are a Display Certificate button, and a Prompt For Name object which are intended for use on any page in the book, where the course author wants to display the certificate, or prompt for the learner’s name.
- The completed certificate is automatically filled in with the course name, date, score, and learner’s name. This page can then be printed for verification of completion.

PNG Support
The resource system now supports PNG files. This means that a PNG file can be imported into the resource system and used multiple times throughout the book. The image is stored in PNG format in the TBK file, so there is no need to move the original image file when copying from one computer to another (this is true for all files supported by the resource system).
When compared with JPG images, PNG images offer lossless encoding and transparency, including alpha channel transparency. PNG images also provide for greater compression, better transparency, and a much higher color depth than GIF images.
PNG files published for the web are now identical to the source file. For example, the Reusable Graphic object in the Placeholder Object section of the ToolBook catalog now publish to DHTML the original JPG image source file. This change ensures your PNG images are identical to those used in your ToolBook content.

Enhanced and Simplified Right-Click Menus
In ToolBook Instructor 9.5, the right-click menus have been replaced by more standard, simplified, and user-friendly menus.
The new right-click menus:
- Don’t have a toolbar.
- Are “widget aware”.
- When you right-click on an object that is part of a widget group (such as a Universal Media Player), you get the right-click menu for the widget group, not the object that is part of the group beneath the mouse cursor.
- Objects with extended properties have the “Extended Properties” item below the regular “Properties” item.
- The widget name (or type) is included in brackets after the object description.
- Handle multiple objects selection results in displaying common context menu items.
- Provide an advanced mode that enables the Property Browser, Debugger, and Action Methods items on the right-click menu as appropriate. To enable these items, go to the Interface tab of the Options dialog.

Note that the version 9 menu style will still be available by editing an INI entry.
New Universal Media Player Option: Hide Player from Learner
In earlier ToolBook releases, there was no option of hiding the Universal Media Player (UMP) at the Reader level. Users playing audio files using the UMP had to move it off the page in order to hide it.
In ToolBook 9.5, users can hide the UMP at the Reader level by turning on the Hide At Reader Level feature in the Properties for Universal Media Player window. This works for both Native and DHTML deployment.

Deployment Mode Indicator
The ToolBook status bar now has an icon that indicates whether the current deployment mode of the book is Native or DHTML. This icon shows up only in the Author mode.
Accessibility Enhancements to Web Runtime
The ToolBook DHTML runtime has been enhanced to work better with the JAWS screen reader.
UI Meant for Native Mode is now Hidden when the Book is in DHTML Mode
Some UI elements that only pertain to Native mode books are now hidden when the book is intended for DHTML deployement.
- The SEND MESSAGE feature (typically on the Feedback tabs of Question editors).
- The options for handling "partially correct response" on the Scoring tab of Question editors .
Previously, these Native UI elements had to be disabled in the DHTML mode; in ToolBook 9.5, they are hidden by default in the DHTML mode.
Action Triggers no Longer Allow Selection of Group Members
In previous releases of ToolBook, the Action Trigger and Reset Trigger catalog objects could reference any named object on the page as the target of their action, including the sub-objects of a UMP. This caused confusion because some objects which are part of the UMP are not available after publishing to the web.
In ToolBook 9.5, Action Triggers are no longer able to reference sub-objects of a UMP, though they are still able to reference sub-objects of other ToolBook widgets such as MC question objects.
Other Features
This section will be updated as additional features and changes are included in subsequent preview releases.
