Course Objectives
In this course, you learn how to:
- Use pre-built objects to save on hours of development time.
- Use navigation options to tailor interactivity to the student's individual learning style.
- Create and use templates to obtain a consistent look and feel to courses.
- Use the Actions Editor to add more functionality to course objects.
- Incorporate and format text, import graphics, audio, and video multimedia, and use these throughout your courses to enhance student learning.
- Export your courses as DHTML Web pages and then publish them to a Learning Management System.
- Add interactivity and evaluation of new knowledge by creating a variety of scored quizzes.
- Analyze a published course and describe how each component and functionality was created with ToolBook.
- Access existing resources to answer questions.
- Use the Simulation AutoBuilder Recorder to capture screens and present an interactive application learning experience.
- Use the Simuation Editor to customize simulation interactions for a more taylored approach to application training.
Course Outline
The course consists of the following sections:
- Introducing ToolBook fundamentals, including adding objects using the Object Catalog and the Tool palette, modifying object properties, creating and modifying group objects, using Author and Reader levels to develop and review content, and adding and modifying pages and backgrounds.
- Exploring navigation options, including hyperlinks and the automatic menu object.
- Working with text in text fields and record fields, importing text, spell checking, and changing properties.
- Incorporating graphics effectively in your courses and using graphics already available within ToolBook Instructor.
- Adding a hotspot graphic object; using different types of links with the hotspot graphic objects.
- Building a template to increase efficiency and consistency during content development.
- Using templates to create new books.
- Adding animation using action triggers and the Actions Editor.
- Expanding options for navigation using the Actions Editor; adding a custom object to the Catalog.
- Enhancing content by adding Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, embedding a Web page; launch a document from within a lesson.
- Adding hyperlinks to screen objects to create hotwords, links to external Web pages and e-mail addresses, and links to other information within the book..
- Incorporating sound, video, and streaming media; playing media with the Actions Editor; and more.
- Publishing your content as DHTML and viewing it through a Web browser.
- Adding question objects to add interactivity to your lesson, using various question types.
- Examining feedback and options for responding to user input.
- Understanding the options for tracking student progress over the Web.
- Introduction to the Simulation AutoBuilder Recorder and Simulation Editor.

Prerequisites
Basic Windows knowledge, including the ability to:
- Create and use shortcuts on the desktop.
- Launch applications using the Start menu.
- Launch Accessories, such as Notepad and Microsoft Paint.
- Use the task bar to switch between Windows applications.
- Use Windows Explorer to navigate the file structure, change the view of file listings, move and copy files, and create new folders (or directories).
- Use a Web browser.
- Use Windows-based software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Distinguish between different media file formats (audio, video, graphic).
